#MuvaTravels: Our Family Trip to D.C.

#MuvaTravels: Our Family Trip to D.C.

A couple of weeks ago, we took our first family trip to Stafford, VA for an end of the summer family cookout. Ever since DJ has been home, we haven't really ventured outside of Virginia Beach and Norfolk. I was kind of nervous, even though he's maturing and doing really well health wise, he's still a preemie and being out of our normal element makes my mama heart a little anxious. Nevertheless, we packed up all of our equipment and onward we went!

Before heading home we decided to take an impromptu visit to D.C. since it was about a 30 minute drive from where we were. Plus we thought it would be a nice little experience for D.J. and us as a family. He's too young to really be interested, but I fully believe in exposing our son to different things, even at such a young age. Aside from the pesky mosquitoes, the weather was perfect and after a quick trip to Chipotle to fuel up, we headed to the museums.

He spent the first half of the trip sleep, but we woke him up for pictures lol. It was super fun to see his expressions and amazement at the people and buildings. I was a little worried that the noise would be too much for him, but he was such a trooper. I on the other hand definitely  underestimated pushing a stroller and 15 pound baby around the Washington monuments! We didn't get to visit much, we walked past the new African American History Museum, The National Mall, and the Lincoln Memorial. We got a good three hours out of DJ before he was over his car seat and ready to go! I was just happy that we got to introduce to something outside the norm at such a young age. I'm looking forward to many more family trips the bigger and more inquisitive he gets!

A picture of the African American History Museum. It wasn't open when were there, but I definitely want to take DJ there later this year. The building was so pretty in person!
